I’ve learned from experience that everything Apple does has a purpose. Every meticulous detail from their packaging to the smallest detail on one of their devices has a purpose. The WWDC logo in previous years has had hidden images of what will be released during the conference as well as what will be released later in the year. Last week Apple introduced their focus on the environment including the use of recycled materials in their devices. The video also focuses on Apple’s infatuation with Solar. The 2014 WWDC logo image, which clearly resembles a solar cell along with the “Better” video, that focuses on Apple’s love for solar. Apple sure seem to be sending a 2014 solar charged message, do you agree, or am I alone?
Color Spectrum Image
The spectrum image above is the color scheme generated when light passes through a crystal or prism. I suggested that the solar cells would need to be covered by a sapphire screen, which is actually a sapphire crystal structure. If white light were to pass through this structure it would yield the pattern below. The pattern of colors generated from white light passing through the crystals are red, yellow, white, green and blue. The colors reflected through a crystal structure are exactly the same colors shown on Apple’s 2014 WWDC with the white light centered in the middle of the Apple.
2014 WWDC Logo
The 2014 logo clearly resembles a solar panel. Take a look at the border and you will notice it, the invite was intentionally left with a thin white border. Take a look at the solar panel featured in Apple’s better video and you will notice a thin white border all around the solar panel. Take a close look at the triangular white diamond shapes that is found within the corner of each solar panel. Take a look at the corner of each colored square on the WWDC 2014 logo and you will notice the same white diamond shapes. Apple has applied to several solar patents over the past year and addressing battery life is one of Apple’s primary focuses. If Apple wants to introduce solar charging they need to protect their precious assets even more than prior years. If Apple is going to put solar panels under the phone cover they need to ensure the phone cover screens will not break. Can you imagine having solar power under Gorilla Glass and shattering your phone? A busted glass green coupled with solar charging would certainly complicate the screen repair process and drive up repair costs even further for consumers and by Apple for devices under warranty.
The diamond shape is also an interesting choice. Diamonds are a gem stone and diamonds are also is 10 on the Mohs Hardness while Sapphire is a 9. Sapphire is also a gem. Sapphire screens are known for their scratch resistance and unbreakable strength. Apple’s WWDC 2014 image is a mirror image of a solar panel, which is the foundation of solar power generation. The only way to keep a solar-powered device safe is by covering it with a sapphire (crystal) cover screen. I’ve added an image at the end of the article that shows the color scheme generated when a ray of light passes through a crystal or prism and the colors generated are exactly the same as the colors within the WWDC 2014 logo.
Apple signed a contract with GT Advanced in November 2013 to supply sapphire materials to Apple. The Mesa, AZ sapphire plant is likely loaded with over 2,100 furnaces. The Mesa sapphire plant began producing sapphire in January and was likely ramped up by the end of March. The latest images of the Mesa Sapphire plant taken April 10th show significant progress towards completing the electric power stations and cooling systems and also provide evidence that Apple has installed solar arrays just outside of the building as well.
This isn’t the first time I’ve brought up solar charging on Apple devices that could be coming in 2014. The 2014 WWDC logo reignited my previous speculation that solar will be coming to the iPhone and iPod in 2014.
I’m curious what everyone else thinks. Did Apple just broadcast to the world that solar charging protected by sapphire screens are secret product design for coming to consumers in 2014?
